My Story

So here I am at another important crossroads of my life’s journey. I think I can say with the utmost confidence that each of us has our own version of hell. I am no exception to this rule, I too have had my own version of hell. My life has not been an easy one, far from it in fact. I have experienced more heartache and loss then I care to recall. Many of you have asked what’s my “story” ? Why do I do what I do today? What were the reasons I changed my career and made it my mission in life to help those hurting or struggling to make it through just one day of their life?

So here’s my answer: I have struggled tremendously in my life. I know what it is like to hit rock bottom, the thoughts that run through your head on those rock bottom days when you first wake up are “do I live today, or do I end it today?” Ever been there? Maybe you are there now. For the good part of two years I was suicidal almost daily and have attempted several times. I was in a psychiatric hospital 10 times in a two year time span.Rock bottom is a super scary place to be. I am here today by the grace of God and the love and support of 3 amazing people in particular Mynde (you can find her on twitter at @MyndeMayfield), Stacey, and Ali. These 3 people in particular simply refused to give up on me. They were there in my darkest hours, were there when my behavior was anything but loving and saw the good in me long before I ever saw it in myself. If it was not for these 3 amazing friends and support team I can say with almost 100% certainty I would not be here today. I am and will forever be grateful for their presence in my life.

If you are one of the ones that may read this entry and be where I was, struggling to hang on, I am here to tell you there is help and hope. I will not tell you it will be easy because it will not. It might even be the hardest thing you ever do. However what I will tell you is this, you choosing to get help and make your life better will be the most rewarding journey you will ever take. It may not feel like it at the time, however you are a survivor!

Is my life easy today? No, far from it. Are there days when I still struggle and am in emotional pain? You bet. In fact honestly very little has changed in my life over the last few years, the trauma and situations are still there I am just learning more coping skills to deal with the things and situations life throws my direction.

I’m not perfect, just like you. I’ve made mistakes (big ones in fact), just like you. I’ve done things I regret, just like you. What I am learning is that we all do the best we can with the skills we have and the situations we were under at the time that whatever happens that we have done that we think is so horrible. You are not bad, evil or wrong, sound familiar? (things I told myself over and over for years). Please don’t beat yourself up. Give yourself credit for all the good that you are doing. Some of you may be thinking there’s nothing good I have done today. I beg to differ. Don’t look for big huge things, start small. Did you get out of bed today even though you wanted to hide from the entire world? Did you eat even though you did not feel like it? Did you answer the phone when a friend called instead of letting it go to voicemail? All of those “small” everyday life things are huge, don’t discount them. Take one day at a time. You can find happiness again, I promise. If I can find it, I know you can too. It may not happen over night however if you are willing to reach out and do the work you will find it. And if you think you have no support or place to turn, please know you have already got one person believing in you, and that is me!

As I look at my life today and all that I have accomplished, I am truly blown away. If you would have told me two years ago that this is what I would be doing with my life, I would have probably look at you rolled my eyes and said “yeah right.” I am two semesters away from graduating from college for the 2nd time doing what I love. In August 2010 I will graduate with a degree in Human Services/Social Work specializing in Family Intervention and Addiction Studies. I am more proud of this then anything I have ever done in my life! It was not easy and there were a lot of bumps in the road along the way, however I stuck with it and did not give up and now here we are almost done! I must say this is the greatest feeling in the world.

So, if you are one of the ones that may read this and feel it resonate with you, please don’t give up. Reach out and get help. There are a lot of amazing compassionate professionals out there who are willing and ready to help. And if you are like me and a professional yourself and think that professionals can’t or should not get help, I thought the same thing, I understand the fear however one of the most courageous things you could ever do is get help for yourself. There is no shame in that and what I have found is that people will respect you more for it because they will see you as human with struggles just like them. Even though I am a professional I still have my own team of professionals that I work with so that I can continue to heal my own life. I am grateful for each of them because they support me in my ability to continue doing what I love!

If I can support any of you on your journey with anything, even if you just want to chat and have a support buddy and someone who will listen with compassion and non-judgement you can find me on Twitter @CoachChristy or you can email me anytime at Christy61583@aol.com I would love to be a part of your support team or one of your personal cheerleaders no matter what you are going through. Until we connect again, remember I am believing in you!

I’d like to dedicate this entry to my three angels Mynde, Ali and Stacey! Thank you for all of your love and support over the years. I am incredibly grateful! Lots of love to all three of you!

Connection Virtual Assistant Services

I just wanted to let you all know about my other gig which is Connection Virtual Assistant Services. I started this service earlier this year as a way to support small business and other coaches and self help professsionals as well as find a meaningful way for me to do all the things that I love.

Before I went into the human service/self help field I recieved a degree in Health Information Management specializing in Medical Coding, Billing and transcription. I left the field in 2006 to persue a dream and that was I really wanted to make a positive difference in peoples lives. I wanted to do something different. I wanted to be the one to help and support not deny services.

So one day while talking to my dear friend Mynde (http://www.myndemayfield.com) and one of the founders of (http://www.yourwebcoaches.com) I found out that she needed some audios typed and I thought Ah Ha! this is something that I can do. And that my friends is how Connection Virtual Assistant Services was born. I realized that I could do all of the things I loved, however do it in a way that supports and fullfills me whether than drain and depress me.

I am so happy that Mynde opened that door for me and I can honestly say now that I love all of what I do.

If you would like to find out more about Connecion Virtual Assistant Services you can either click here http://connection-virtual-assistant-services.blogspot.com/ to go to my website or scroll up to the the top of this blog and click on the Connection Virtual Assistant page to find out more about me and the company.

If you would like to setup a time to discuss how I may be able to support you and your business you may email me at Christy61583@aol.com or call me at 843-412-1356

Loving Yourself (Video By Louise Hay)

I came accross this video a few days ago and I must say that I was so deeply touched by it. I like many of us struggle with the concept of loving myself truly for who I am. That is one of my most challenging issues and it takes such a concious effort to do so.

I don’t have all of the answers. Like many of you out there my life has not been an easy one. However what I have learned over the last few years is that no matter what our circumstances we always have the ability to choose love for ourselves and others. it’s a choice placed back into our hands on a daily basis. There are really only two options in this life love or fear and it is my hope and prayer that you choose love because you really are trully worth it!

Shine Your Light Today and Always,

Coach Christy

It's Not Just A Cross

It’s not just a Cross I wear around my neck,

I don’t wear it just cause,

I wear it cause I am in love with the most amazing King,

and He in love with me,

it’s not just a piece of jewelry,

it’s a symbol,

of who’s I am,

a reminder of the ultimate sacrifice given for me,

and why you ask?

just because

On Fallen knees I come before you Lord,

Thank you for reminding me that you are mine,

and I am yours,

for giving your all-every drop of blood you gave for me,

for loving me despite all my sins,

welcoming me back into your precious and holy arms

for you are Holy,

I will praise you from the depths of my soul,

My Love for you overflows

I love you Lord and I cannot wait till I rest in your heavenly kingdom!

So you see, it’s not just a cross around my neck,

but something much more special,

a symbol of the promise made by two special beings!

Ah Ha!

Today has been a challenging and rather painful day for me. without going into specifics, my heart just really aches because of someones actions and there continual decisions to make choices that are destroying there life and hurting other people with really no regard for the pain they are causing those around them.

My life has not been an easy one. I have had a multitude of heartbreaking and truly devastating circumstances thrust apon me since I was a little girl. I feel I had to grow up fast and at times take on the role as the adult because I felt If I did not do it and work hard to keep my world together nobody would.

However what I really wanted to share with you and the reason behind this post is to share my Ah ha! moment tonight. While on a Fearless Book Group call with one of my dear friends and mentors Mynde, A couple of shifts happened: The first (and I never told mynde or anyone this part) after my extremely painful evening, I decided to join the call instead of isolating in my room however I had kinda made up my mind that I was not going to talk (fear at work there!). I did not want to share my pain, not because I did not want to really but because I did not want to have to expose the embarrassment and shame that thees particular circumstances bring up for me. I have this thought in my head that if people know this particular part of my situation what will they think of me now? I sometimes feel like I walk around with “LOOSER” in big letters written across my forehead. (fear again!)

So, I had made this fear-based decision right before the start of the call, that I would call in however not talk. And that is what I did at least in the beginning. there I sat on the phone secretly trying to hold back tears, hoping no one could tell that that was not working and that I was crying on a conference call (here comes that looser feeling again!) Then my first ah ha! moment, Mynde was talking about what she sometimes does when she is in fear and just wants to go and hide from the rest of the world and I thought wow, I am not the only one who has had a crummy few hours and just wants to compleatly disapear!! (simple concept I know, however sometimes hard to remember when you are in the moment.)

So, I spoke up and thanked Mynde for talking about isolating and explained that that was what I was practicing not doing by joining this call. The calls theme tonight was really about expectations and have we can shift from that to intention and becoming aware of the language we use that could be an indicator that we are in expectation.

I then took another risk and spoke a little bit about my pain and frustration and admitted that I was angry. What I was able to remind myself tonight is that it is OK to have those feelings. I can be hurt and pissed off-i’m human. the neat part and gift is, is that I get to CHOOSE what I do with those feelings and what actions am I willing to take to support myself to live a more fulfilled fearless life no matter what drama or pain is around me.

For a good 3 and a half-4 years I did not know what to do with my pain and heartache so I turned it inward and was very self-destructive- suicide attempts, eating issues, anxiety and panic attacks and so on. Honestly anything I could do that would prove my fear was right that I was a looser and worthless I did. While that saddens me to know that I let myself get that low, I am also eternally grateful because I believe it was the Divine’s calling for me to get that low just so I could see how beautiful and precious life is.

I now know there is nothing I could have done about the situation I am facing and have to live with daily. I could not fix or save the people involved and it’s not my job to do so. I did not do anything wrong and I am not a bad person to “deserve” this. it’s just what is and I try to live my life everyday with the knowledge that different people make different choice in life than my own and they have to accept the consequences for their actions, good or bad and move on with their lives.

For me really learning that it’s OK for my life to go on despite others peoples choices was huge. I deserve to be happy and have my dreams come true! The last year of my life has been amazing. I am happy and for the fist time EVER I am watching my dreams come true and it feels so amazing!

Rascal Flatts Live in Concert

I just got home from this amazing concert that was tonight in Charleston SC as part of the Bob That Head Tour. These guys are simply amazing! Not only can they sing there lungs out, they are just really down to earth nice guys who in my opinion have not let there fame go to there head.

Now on to the amazing concert. I was so impressed. First of all the stage was huge. it was in the form of a rectangle and went way out in to the crowd so even if you were not sitting in the front row the guys were still singing right in front of you. The opening and closing of the concert were both huge, amazing and over the top. I will leave out the details in case any of you my readers are planning to go to one of the upcoming concerts on this amazing tour.

The guys sang all of there hits and some new songs as well. with some banter in between some of the songs that made you totally crack up! They thanked all of there fans for coming out and made a special note of the state of the economy taking note that they realize that everyone is having to watch there dime and that they are aware that purchasing concert tickets at this time may have been more of a challenge then in years past. I was really touched by this statement and their willingness to take the time to say thanks to there many fans!

This was such an amazing show. I wish I could go again and it is something that I will remember for a long time!

Started my 2nd semester back at college after a year long break just a few short weeks ago. I must say I was so excited to start back after a month off in between semesters. What a long month that was!

Fall Semester was amazing! It was great to make such a comeback and be such a success after so much heartache and things just not working out. I finished the Fall 2008 semester with a 4.o GPA and on the Deans List! What an accomplishment! This is actually the first time in my life I have been able to do that.

I did all of this while working at the same time. I believe what this experience taught me was that sometimes you have to reach your own personal rock bottom to really understand what you are made of and capable of. Also, reaching your rock bottom is not always a bad thing. I believe it took me reaching my rock bottom to realize how good I have it.

So, as I write this blog I am not celebrating the great grades and academic success, while all that is great the celebration is about something that is much deeper than that. it’s about coming from the lowest of lows, picking myself up, dusting myself off and saying to myself “ok this is the life God gave me and I cannot change certain things, all I can do is make the best of them.” I can sit here and feel sorry for myself if I choose or I can stand up and make something of my life-choosing to beat the odds!

That is what I chose to do. If you had told me in August I would make all A’s at the end of the semester I would not have believed you and that was never really the goal either. I just decided to do the best I could and that just happened to be the outcome!

What a gift! I am truly grateful! So you see, dreams do come true

Camp Burnt Gin

Most of you are aware that I love this place so much. I have been attending this special place since 1992. Camp Burnt Gin has helped me to become who I am today and have the confidence to face a world that is really not meant for those who have a disability.

While at CBG every summer I have the amazing opportunity to be part of a group and participate in all of the activities instead of being an outsider.

Because of cuts in the state budget, CBG has lost all of it’s funding and for the first time since it’s opening in 1945 CBG will no longer be able to provide a summer camping experience to so many special needs children.

I believe in this program and not just because I have seen and experienced it with my own eyes but also because I want more children to be able to experience the fun and joy I experienced for all of these years!

Together I know we can make a difference for so many!
